I have been keeping my eyes on these “Bar Camps” going on around Italy. After many discussions with Italians I started to realize it’s not lack of understanding about SEO/SEM/Web 2.0 but it’s about the way the Italian market shares what knowledge it has. Most Italians I spoke with kept telling me ” you have to do things the way the Italians are doing them in order to reach an audience in Italy.” My question is “how is that working for you?” Apparently not well since I still see answers like “SEO is an application” when I ask what does SEO mean to you?

Bottom line is in my humble opinion as an outside observer knowledge is not being shared with the masses. There are very few that are well versed in all aspects of WEB2.0 including the acronyms involved. Whether they are not sharing their knowledge and passion with their readers, or worst yet don’t engage their readers, followers into informative discussions. It’s okay to disagree, it’s okay to not know everything. How can we? Everything about SEO/SEM/SMO is evolving. Kind of remind me of 2003 where SEO was still considered black magic and the work of hackers who’s sole purpose was to screw you and make money.

Maybe because I live across the ocean, and don’t deal with the Italian day to day struggles whether economically or culturally but, I see all this discord as opportunities. I also see how someone like Alex has brought the forum for the conversation to begin. For that I commend you and applaud you my dear friend. Nothing wrong, with using social media to make change happen. The way I see it Leaders lead by example…
